2021 Porsche Taycan Electric Vehicle

The Porsche Taycan has been on the market for a year, and it has taken the world by surprise, with owners nearly unanimously loving it. The Taycan is, first and fundamentally, a supercar, but one with an electrified core capable of producing up to 522 horsepower in non-Turbo models. It's no slouch when it comes to speed, with sub-four-second 0-60 time and insane race pace on any given track. 

Porsche's goal was to build an electric vehicle that elicited the same emotional reaction that an enthusiast would have after hearing one of the company's more conventional vehicles. In a nutshell, this is an electric vehicle designed for passionate drivers.

Porsche's exterior styles are instantly recognizable. The Porsche-911 is so well-known that it can be recognized only from looking at an illustration. Since the Taycan is Porsche's first electric vehicle, it had to stand out while also maintaining the company's original designs. The designers were able to pull it together in some way. The Taycan is an entirely different vehicle, but it retains the Porsche look.

The interior of the Taycan is almost entirely digital. The steering wheel controls are the only remaining conventional buttons. In the middle console, there are two screens: the top one handles all of the infotainment, while the lower one handles the temperature control. Even the dashboard is digital, and the missing conventional centrally positioned tachometer in a Porsche is shocking. 

The rest of the vehicle is standard Porsche, which is a positive thing. The construction quality is excellent, the seating is comfortable in all the correct spots, and the general functionality appears plentiful. The only disadvantage being the limited room for back seats.

The Taycan has a traditional seating configuration, but you can add a small middle seat to make it a five-seater. And while standing still, the Taycan seems to feel sporty. Given that there is a huge battery under the base, the front seats are fixed low to the stage, which is amazing.

The Taycan comes standard with three interior colors and limited leather seats. Black, Slate Grey, and a Black/Limestone Beige combination are the available colors. At a close $80,000 market value for the entry-level edition, Porsche requires you to spend an extra $4,130 for a complete leather interior, which is a little sneaky. You'll have to pay $4,700 for a mix of two leather interior shades.

When the 2020 Porsche Taycan was introduced last year, it was brand new, so there was little to say about predicted durability. Designers predicted some minor issues now that it has been on the market for a year. Porsche has long been a dependable brand, but the Taycan was the company's first venture into fully electric vehicles. There were no incidents in 2020, and there have been none so far in 2021.

This vehicle was created to make a statement. It shows that electric vehicles can be entertaining and that the design of a well-known brand name can be injected into an entirely new offering. Porsche can't compete with Tesla in terms of range, but Tesla can't compete in terms of quality and care.

Tesla is still a formidable competitor, except it's about $20,000 less expensive. Both vehicles have flaws, so we can see where they come from. Tesla is an electric vehicle manufacturer that is currently grappling with the fundamentals of automotive construction. Porsche is an iconic carmaker that is learning how to create a high-performance electric vehicle. It'll be fascinating to see who will win the electric race.

If a supercar enthusiast had to choose between these two options, Porsche is the way to go.
